Bonnie L. Leavitt

Bonnie L. Leavitt, of North Las Vegas, passed away Wednesday, November 1, 2017, at her home she loved for 62 years. She had turn 91 years young the day before, October 31, 2017. Bonnie was born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, to Nathaniel and Frances Wiggins. Her sister, Claudene, was happy to have a little sister join the family. Bonnie graduated from Putnam City High School and attended Oklahoma A and M. Bonnie moved to Las Vegas in 1954 and married Roy Leavitt. They were married for 12 years. In December 1955, Bonnie became one of the first charter members of Griffith United Methodist Church and when it merged with Heritage United Methodist, she became a charter member of the present Journey United Methodist Church. She was also a member of United Methodist Women. Bonnie was instrumental in starting the Las Vegas Community Choir. She was office secretary for Teamsters Union Local 631 for 33 years and retired in 1989. Bonnie was preceded in death by her parents; and her sister, Claudene (Harold) Knight. She is survived by her nephews, James (Ann) and Richard (Kathy) Knight; her niece, Donna Kay Knight; her great-nephew, Gary; great-nieces, Jamie, Ashley and Cary; and four great-great-nieces. Service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, November 21, at Journey United Methodist Church, 6450 E. Stewart Ave., Las Vegas, NV 89110. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Journey United Methodist Church in Bonnie's name.
