Clara Leavitt

Clara Ruth Kennedy Leavitt completed her Earthly journey September 25, 2017. Clara was born November 4, 1938, in Smithville, Mississippi, to Lando and Ethel Kennedy. She grew up working on the farm and taking care of her younger brother and sisters. Clara graduated from Smithville High School and went on to attend Ricks College (now BYU-I) and BYU. She graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Foods and Nutrition. Clara married her eternal companion, Ronald Terry Leavitt, July 20, 1961, in the St. George Temple. Clara spent her life serving others through her church work. She baked many delicious rolls and cakes and quilted many beautiful quilts. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lando and Ethel Gann Kennedy; her brothers, Hilton Kennedy, Richard Kennedy and Milton Kennedy; and her sister, Diann Amon. She is survived by her husband, Ronald Leavitt; sisters, Elizabeth (Philip) Mancil and Arcola (Gene) Voyles; daughter, Kimberly (Lionel) Tyree; granddaughters, Maria (Timothy) Grover, Virginia (Adam) Comish and Stacy (Jackson) McNutt; and six great-grandchildren. Viewing will begin at 9 a.m. Saturday, September 30, with service following at 10 a.m., both at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1101 N. Pecos Road, Las Vegas. Burial following at Woodlawn Cemetery, 1500 Las Vegas Blvd. N. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to LDS charities.
