Delayne Jones

DeLayne G. Jones, (Dee) was born June 15, 1957 in Las Vegas, Nevada.  She was welcomed by her parents Dale L. Glenn (dec.) and Elaine T. Glenn.   Dale and Elaine waited a long 7 years to welcome this cute baby girl into their home.  She brought love, laughter, joy, kindness and compassion to their home.  Dee was born with a hole in her heart and underwent open heart surgery at the young age of 4.  At that time, President Russell M. Nelson (now President of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints) and his cardiac team had invented an open-heart bypass procedure.   Dee was one of the first children to survive and be blessed by utilizing this heart bypass procedure.  At the age of 6 she was diagnosed with Diabetes.  All throughout her life she dealt with many health obstacles and trials.    

Dee graduated from Western High School and continued her secondary education at Brigham Young University studying Music at both the Provo and Hawaii Campuses.  Dee was an accomplished pianist and organist.  She loved to play for anyone who asked, for church services and especially for her Father when he sang.  It was so devastating for her when she started to lose her eyesight because she could no longer read music and playing the organ and piano became near impossible.  Having to give up her music was one of the hardest trials she had to face in her life.

In October, 1982, Dee was called to serve a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, in the Georgia, Atlanta mission.   She served the Lord with all heart for 18 months and came to love the people of Georgia.  To this day she corresponds with many people she taught the Gospel to and people she met while serving in the Atlanta mission.

Dee married Arthur Jones on June 28, 1986.  She was devastated to learn that due to her diabetes and health conditions it was near impossible for her to give birth to children.  She so deeply wanted to be a Mother that they decided to start the adoption process through LDS  Services.  Three years later they were blessed to welcome their first son into their home, Kevin A. Jones born August 21, 1989 (33).  In three years’ time, another blessing came to this little family with the adoption of their second son, Christopher D. Jones born October 5, 1993 (29).  Soon after, the family purchased a home in Pahrump, Nevada where they lived for a few years.   Unfortunately, the marriage did not last and Dee suddenly found herself to be a single Mother taking care of these two small children.   She returned to Las Vegas with her children and moved back into her childhood home where she would continue to live for the rest of her days. With a smile and only the love of a Mother, she persevered and raised her two sons.   These two boys were the light of her life.  She was a loving and devoted Mother, always putting the needs of her children first before her own.    

Dee held many callings in the Church throughout her life but her very favorite was teaching the Primary children.  Many Saturday nights she would be up late preparing goodies and crafts for the children in her class.  And whenever there was a holiday the kitchen table was taken over with baked goodies, candy and special gifts for her kids.   She truly loved each and every one of them and thought of them as if they were her own children. 

Dee spent the last 37 years working at the Nevada National Security Site as a Business Assistant, III.  She loved her job and the people she worked with.  Even when her eyesight started to diminish, she did not want to leave her job so she talked with her supervisor who agreed to provide her with magnified monitors so that she could continue to work.  When Covid hit, she was provided the same magnified monitors and a workstation at home where she would continue working.  Many days if you walked into the back bedroom of the house, you would find Dee at the computer in front of these magnified monitors working away.  (Sometimes even holding a magnifying glass up to the monitors so she could read the writing!). Her co-workers became her friends and she loved being a part of their group and their friendships.

Dee will be forever remembered by her children Kevin Jones and Christopher Jones; her mother, Elaine T. Glenn; her siblings, Pam Waite (Herb), Cindy Pittsenbarger (Tim) and Doug Glenn (Janette); as well as a host of nieces, nephews and wonderful friends.

Dee was called home to her Heavenly Father on May 10, 2023.  We are sure she had a joyous reunion with her Father and many family members waiting with open arms to welcome her home.  She will be dearly missed by all who loved her and were lucky enough to call her Mother, Daughter, Sister, Aunt and Friend.
