Ernestine P. Covert passed away November 20th surrounded by family and friends. She was proceeded in death by her mother Theresa Good and her father Leon d’Entremont. Ernestine was born on November 30th 1949 in Fort Monmouth, New Jersey to Leon & Theresa d’Entremont. Ernie spent a lot of time in the music industry as a child with her parents who were both musicians. As a child she sang and enjoyed raising horses. She was very talented at everything she did. During her youth Ernie competed in the Miss Teenage American Contest where she was a runner-up. She was a loving big sister to Leon d’Enremont. Ernie met and married Melvin Covert in 1966 and was happily married for over 52 loving years. Mel and Ernie lived in multiple states throughout their marriage finally settling down in Las Vegas in 1986. Mel and Ernie raised 5 children, were grandparents to 12 and great-grandparents to 7. She was a loving wife and mother who was fiercely protective of her family. She enjoyed going to the beach, dancing with her grandchildren, rooting for her beloved San Diego Chargers and raising Great Danes, which she did with Mel for more than 20 years. Ernie was very proud of her Native American heritage and would often refer to herself as royalty going so far as to call herself the Queen. She was a loyal friend who often put the needs of others over her own. She had a great sense of humor and was never afraid to laugh even when the joke was on her. Ernie had a huge heart and was a fierce competitor. Even during her battle with cancer she refused to give in, outlasting her Dr’s prognosis by more than 3 years. Caner may have taken her life but it did not beat her as she remained defiant to the very end. She loved her family with every ounce of her being and that love lives on in each of them.
