Harold Sherrod, JR

“JR”

Beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather, Brother

Born April 19, 1961

Died April 7, 2018

JR was born April 19, 1961 at Fairchild Air Force Base in Washington State to Harold E Sherrod Sr. and Sharon K. Childers. He was the oldest sibling to David, Darlene and Steve.

JR grew up in San Antonio, Texas, and always proclaimed he was a Texan.  He Graduated Randolph High School in 1980, and was a proud alumni of the Rohawks. The day after he graduated, he was sworn into service with the Air Force and achieved the rank of Technical Sergeant, E6. JR married Kerry Lytle while in the military and had two sons, Harold Edward, III (Hess) and William Robert. They were later divorced. JR was proud to be a Security Officer, and served honorably in the Air Force for 12 years, six months and 15 days. He was discharged on December 14, 1992 and made his home in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Besides JR always wanting to serve his country, he also was looking to the heavens for answers and was searching for any truth he could find.  He found his answers thanks to a wonderful friend, Stacey Faust. On March 13, 1992, he was baptized a member of the Church of Jesus Chris of Latter Day Saints. His favorite team has always been the Dallas Cowboys. He loved being a Texan almost as much as he was proud to be a Veteran.

On March 16, 1998, JR married the love of his life, Jodi Linn Wilson. Immediately upon his marriage to Jodi, he was the father of two additional sons, Timothy Robert and John Michael Daniel. Then in February 1999, their bonus was added to the family, Nicholas Christopher Sherrod. JR loved sharing what was called “The Sherrod math.” He would say, “I have three sons, Jodi has three sons, together we have five. So, three plus three equals five.”  He loved his sons dearly. It took a few years, and with a lot of prayers, the day he was looking forward to the most was when he could be sealed to his beloved Jodi and Nicholas. On March 20, 2004, JR, Jodi and Nicholas were sealed as a family.

JR’s life was full of service. After serving his country, he served with the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Although he was a Post and District Commander, he received more joy in being a Chaplain. He took joy and loved working with those who were hurting and needed comfort. He would get to know them so he could honor them. In his church he also served as Scout Master, in the High Priest Group leadership, and as a teacher. He just loved teaching. His latest calling was Bear’s Den Leader where he got to serve with his Jodi.

Those who preceded JR were is mother, Sharon; sister, Darlene; brother, David; and son, Hess. He is survived by his wife, Jodi; sons: William, Timothy, John and Nicholas; his brother, Steve; sister-in-law, Kimberly; father-in-law, Roy; mother-in-law, Bonnie; many nieces and nephews, and his Grandsons, Harold IV (Hess), Thomas, Daniel and Gawayn.

JR is now in God’s service. He will be missed.
