James Earl Everson was born to Martha L. Edwards and Wade Eberson in Washington, North Carolina on July 13, 1940. They both preceded him in death. He was the youngest of three children. A brother, Wade Eberson, Jr., and sister, Iceolene Riddle who both preceded him in death.

He graduated from P.S. Jones High school in May 1959 and entered the United States Air Force in 1962 where he served for 8years. He received an honorable discharge on March 13, 1970, from the US Air Force. During his term of service, he married Shirley Jean Redmond of North Carolina, who preceded him in death. Six children were born to this union.

After working several jobs, which included Burger King, Seltzer Water Shop, and the Silver Slipper, James went to work for the Clark County School District in 1972, where he served for almost 40 years until his retirement. After receiving a Thanksgiving dinner invitation in 1967, he met Patricia Lanier. On June 11, 1972 they were married and from that union there were three children, a son Patrick who preceded him in death in 2002. James united with the Greater Faith M.B. Church and was baptized on August 13, 1972. He served in several capacities until he decided to join his wife at the Highland Square S. D. A. church where he was baptized May 20, 1978. He served in several capacities until his death.

He was labeled everbody's handyman and his children called him "the Bar-B-Que King and Superman".

He leaves to cherish his memory; his wife of 47 years, Patricia Everson; daughters: Antoniette (James) Stark of Washington, North Carolina; Pamela Everson of Brooklyn, New York; Danita (Larry) Gant of North Las Vegas, Nevada; sons: Michael (Georgette) Redmond of Grimesland, North Carolina; Jerry (Sheron) Everson of North Las Vegas, Nevada; Michael Everson of Las Vegas, Nevada; James E. (Cherise) Everson, Jr. of Greenville, North Carolina; Collis (Laquita) Everson of High Point, North Carolina. 17 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; sisters-in-law Annie Walker of North Las Vegas, Nevada; Mae Robinson of Plant City, Florida; Priscilla Lee of Plant City, Florida; Eva (Dallas) Johnson of Plant City, Florida; brother –in-law Oliver Lee of Tampa, Florida and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins; god-children Marvin, Quincy, Ebony and Michael Redic of Las Vegas, Nevada and Jackie (Bryant) Morrison of Las Vegas, Nevada; and adopted children Charles and Debra Yancy.
