Louis Johnson Grant was born in Meridian, Mississippi on March 2, 1926 to the late Ivey Grant and Albena Johnson Grant. He was raised in Kemper County and later moved to Philadelphia, Mississippi with his four siblings. He attended school in Mississippi when he turned eighteen he enlisted into the United States Navy in 1943. While in the Armed Forces he serviced in World War II as a soldier. He was honorary discharged in 1948 after servicing four years. He moved to Cleveland Ohio and worked at General Motors until he moved to Las Vegas in 1965. After living in Las Vegas for several years he got a job with the Nevada Test Site in 1968 where he was a Uranium Driver and was a member of Teamster union. He retired from the Test Site after 35 years. He also was a Crossing Guard for over fifteen years at the Clark County School District. He received several safety awards and honors of recognition of an achievement. While in Las Vegas, he met Theressa Sanders with four children they married in 1979. They were married for almost 20 years until her death in 1996. He attended Second Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Willie Davis. Louis was known as "Grant" among the family and the Las Vegas community. He loved to listen to music and watch sporting activities. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) for over 25 years. In his later years, he lived in a senior living at Pacifica in the Spring Valley area until his death on June 16, 2019.
Louis Grant preceded in death with his wife Theressa Sanders Grant of Las Vegas, Nevada; mother and father Albena Johnson Grant and Ivey Grant; two brothers Henry Lee Grant and Sylvester Grant; one sister Alma Jean Grant Moore; step-daughter (Connie Nash) of Las Vegas, Nevada.
He leaves to cherish his memories: his sister (Mannie Mae Bybee Grant) of Cleveland, Ohio; his favorite niece Shelby Moore of Philadelphia, Mississippi; his two step-sons Clovis Nash (Ollie) of Las Vegas, Nevada, Claude Hodges (Vanessa) of Henderson, Nevada; his step-daughter (Murneice Walker) of Wichita, Kansas; and his longtime friend Willie Delores Banks of Las Vegas, Nevada. With a host of step-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.
