Tribute

Mary Anna Eller, 85, of Las Vegas, Nevada, departed this life on January 29, 2019 at Valley Hospital. Mary Anna was known as “Mary Ann” to those who had the pleasure to know here and her spouse, Vern, of 57 years. To her children and her grandchildren, she was known as “Ma”, to her great grandchildren, she was called Great Grandma. Mary Anna was born to Anthony Cavallero and Anna (Tuzzolino) on March 6th, 1933, in Los Angeles, California. She was raised by her loving, close and numerous family members. Mary Ann was the owner of two dress shops, in a suburb of Los Angeles, in the 1960s and early 1970s. She loved clothes and her taste was impeccable. She went shopping to replenish stock two Fridays a month with her daughter Suzanna. They would haul their bounty back to the shops and work until late at night tagging and checking their goods. Her customers were her friends and she would them with love and care. Mary Ann was an avid collector of books. She would get lost on Saturdays, but her family members knew where to find her. She would either be at the used book shops or the thrift stores. She would return home excited to read one of her new treasures. Mary Ann loved gardening and her rose garden was envied by many. She would find the rarest of roses and they would flourish under her care. She would send for the bare roots, from all over the world, if she could not find a rose that she wanted in the local nurseries. She also had affection for trees. She would study the different types and various species and send for the seeds. They too would succeed under her care. Mary Ann loved animals and her spouse and children benefited by her infatuation with any and all types of animals. She decided that she would like to have a small farm. In their small, but accommodating yard, in suburban Los Angeles, came two calves, two goats and a pig. The children were witnesses to the birth of twin baby goats, one evening. She also loved birds. In came a huge cage, of which she designed. In the cage, lived all kinds and varieties, including peacocks. She even decided on a Capuchin monkey names “Nikki”. Nikki loved Snicker bars and had a place of honor, in her cage, in grandmother’s kitchen. When the Ellers’ decided to move to Las Vegas, in the 1970s, she went to work at the Sands Hotel. There her personality and winning smile brought her many friends and associates. She retired from the Monte Carlo. She kept in contact with many of her acquaintances and friends. During the 1980s through the early 2000s, Mary Ann and Vern traveled everywhere. Whether they were on the plane with the Running Rebels and their many tournaments or off to Hawaii for a convention, they loved to travel. They spent six weeks in Europe, on their own. No tours for them. Cruises were another one of their passions and they took many of them. Mary Ann is preceded in death by her mother Anna (whose love had never ended). Her love for her mother was exceptional and well deserved. She is survived by her spouse Vern, her daughters Cheri (Ken), Suzanna, Tonya (Dan) and her son Steve (Debbie). Her grandchildren Francesca (Chuck), Stephanie (Adam), Erica, Brandy, Jason (Shannon), Katherine (Jesus), Justin and Jessica. Her great grandchildren Aaliyah, Lauren, Olyviah, William , Anna, Maximo, Xavier, Elizabeth, Hunter, Emily, Kaden, Sierra, Gabriel and one on the way!!! Mary Ann was not an affectionate person, but her love for her family was all encompassing. She carried an overwhelming presence in everywhere and touched everyone in a way that was unforgettable. She will be with all of us forever.
