Clifford Pitts

January 3, 2017

Clifford "Cliff" Pitts, 1922-2017, of Henderson, passed away January 3, 2017. He was born in Marysville, Utah, but was very much a native Nevadan, since his parents moved to McGill two months later. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy on the USS Zeilin during World War II. He married the love of his life, Marjorie Walker, in 1943. Together they had two children, Teri and Gary. Cliff had a distinguished career as a union electrician with the IBEW Local 357, where he served for more than a decade as the assistant business manager. He retired in 1988 from Greyhound Exposition Services where he was a manager of the electrical division. February 2017 would have marked his 70th Anniversary with the IBEW. Following his retirement, Cliff and Marjorie loved to travel the country in their RV, along with their constant companion, a poodle named Martini. Golf was his game and martinis were his drink. When it got too hot in Henderson, he could be found up at Mt Charleston, where he and Marjorie spent their summers. He will always be remembered for his kindness, generosity and dry sense of humor, often referring to his friends and family playfully as "rutabaga" or "hockey puck" as a term of endearment if you did something silly. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie, in 2010; and son, Gary, in 2013. He is survived by his daughter, Teri Pitts; friend, Maryann Turria; nephew, Jim Savage and wife, Donna; daughter-in-law, Glenna Pitts; five grandchildren and spouses; and four great-grandchildren. Private services are pending. Cheers to Dad, "Unc", Grandpa, and Great-grandpa, from all your "rutabagas". We will miss you.
