Marvin D. Rose, 93, of Henderson, passed away Sunday, Jan. 8, 2017. He was born Oct. 17, 1923, in New York City, to David and Tess Rose. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Marvin was a devoted husband and father. He was married to Freema Rose for 67 years and they had four children. In 1948, he graduated from City College of San Francisco and began his career in the insurance industry at the Fireman's Fund Insurance Company. In 1962, he and his family moved to Henderson, where he joined the LaPorta Insurance Agency. He later became a partner of the agency. Always active in the industry's associations, Marvin served his local southern Nevada independent insurance agents in a number of capacities including the post of president. He also served his state association in numerous activities and positions, including director and 1975-76 president. After LaPorta Insurance Agency was sold, he continued to work as an agent until the age of 91. He was affectionately known to family and friends, as "The Grouch." Marvin was preceded in death by his wife, Freema; and son, Michael. He is survived by three of his children, Steven Rose (Jaime) of Pahrump, Marc Rose (Julie) of Henderson, and Laurie McKnight (Charlie) of New Harmony, Utah; 12 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. Family memorial service will be private.
